New judge to hear case involving surviving Stockton robbery suspect

STOCKTON - The surviving suspect in a deadly Stockton bank robbery, kidnapping and shootout appeared before a new judge in court Monday morning.

Judge Bernard Garber is now handling the case involving suspect Jaime Ramos. Ramos is charged with dozens of crimes following the incident on July 16, in which three suspects robbed a bank, took hostages and then shot at police during an hour-long chase. The defense asked for the change in judges and that change was granted.

The other two suspects died in the shootout with police, as did hostage Misty Holt Singh. Family members of Singh witnessed Monday's court appearance but left without comment.

Ramos was in and out of court within minutes. He heard one of the charges read against him that was mistakenly left out of the previous arraignment appearance.

Ramos returns to court September 15, for further arraignment.

Prosecutor Mark Ott said he expects the defense attorney to request a change of venue in this case, a motion he'll fight enthusiastically.

"This community can decide this community's crimes. I will litigate that so the community can decide it's cases," said Ott.
