Update: 3-year-old ejected, killed in Stockton crash identified

SACRAMENTO - A 3-year-old girl died from injuries she suffered when she was ejected in a vehicle collision in Stockton Friday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol says.

The San Joaquin County coroner identified the child as Viviana Guerrero of Atwater.

The crash was on northbound Highway 99 and Hammer Lane at approximately 12:45 p.m.

The girl was not in a car seat, according to CHP Officer James Smith said. However, at the scene, officers said they didn't know for sure if the child was correctly restrained in a car seat or not.

According to Smith, for some reason the 2000 Isuzu the girl was in and a 2012 Toyota also traveling in the northbound lanes collided. Both vehicles went onto the shoulder and the Isuzu overturned.

A 10-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl also in the Isuzu were hurt. The boy was taken by air ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center and the girl was transported to San Joaquin County General. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

Smith said it was unclear if alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision. The CHP is continuing to investigate.
