Woman dies on way to bachelorette party

MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. – A Lee's Summit woman heading to the Lake of the Ozarks for her bachelorette party over the weekend died in a car accident, reports KCTV News in Kansas City.

The woman, identified in the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report as 26-year-old Collette M. Moreno was wearing a seat belt when the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. along Prairie Valley Road at Highway 5 in Morgan County.

Moreno was riding in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu when the 26-year-old female driver attempted to pass another vehicle. A 1999 Dodge Ram driven by a 25-year-old Versailles man crested a hill at this time. The drivers of the Malibu and Ram swerved to miss each other, but the Ram hit the passenger side of the Malibu, sending the Malibu off to the left side of the road and the Ram off the right side of the road.

MSHP says Moreno was taken to a Columbia hospital where she was pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m.

According to KCTV, Moreno was set to wed her fiance next month.

A YouCaring page has been set up to raise money for Moreno's funeral and travel expenses so her family can attend. A fund has also been established for her young son's future expenses. Donations can be mailed to the Collette Moreno-Arcobasso Memorial Fund at Bank of the West, 229 SE Topaz Dr., Lee's Summit, Mo. 64063.
