Police shoot, kill Lodi man

A Lodi man was shot and killed by police after allegedly charging at them with a knife.

Lodi police Lt. Sierra Brucia said officers got reports of a disturbance near Elderica Way and Paradise Drive around 9:06 a.m. Saturday.

When officers got to the scene, they were confronted by 43-year-old Parminder Singh Shergill who was brandishing a knife outside. Brucia said officers told Sherigill to put down the knife, but he refused. He then charged at officers and was shot, Brucia said.

Shergill was pronounced dead at the scene. No other information about Sherigill was released.

The two officers involved in the shooting - a 22-year veteran and a 15-year veteran to law enforcement - were placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated. Their names are not being released

Brucia said the shooting is being investigated by the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office and the California Department of Justice.

No one else was injured during the shooting.
