Police: South Modesto homicide suspect arrested

An arrest has been made for an April 9 murder of a man from Modesto, according to the Modesto Police Department.

On April 9 at about 11:15 p.m., police say a sergeant found a suspicious vehicle parked in a field in the Tioga Drive/Legion Park Drive area. When the sergeant tried to contact a man inside the vehicle, he found that the victim was deceased.

The Modesto Police Department says the preliminary investigation suggests that the victim, identified as 55-year-old Steve Monkhouse, was assaulted with a knife while inside his vehicle in the field.

Michael Christopher Suarez, 25, of Modesto, was arrested Tuesday night for Monkhouse’s murder, police say.
