Two women killed in crash, teen driver arrested

Police are investigating a crash that left two women dead Tuesday evening.

According to Modesto Police, the three-vehicle crash happened just after 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Tully and Rumble Roads.

When first responders arrived, they tried to free an injured driver and passenger from a car that had rolled over.

The 54-year-old passenger, Sherri Cooley was pronounced dead at the scene. 21-year-old Megan Cooley was taken to a local area hospital where she later died.

Officers believe a 2006 Mercedes sedan was speeding on Tully Road when it collided with the passenger side of a 2003 Ford Escape, which was attempted to make a left turn.

The ford flipped and landed over 160 feet north of the intersection.

The 16-year-old driver, and her two teen passengers, were taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 16-year-old driver has been charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while under the influence.
