Woman with life-like baby dolls arrested at maternity ward

A woman who tried to enter a valley hospital maternity ward with life-like baby dolls was arrested.

A couple brought the dolls to Mercy Medical Center in Merced last Sunday, according to Merced police Capt. Tom Trindad. Police were contacted by hospital security who had been asked to escort Tonya Whitney and the man with her from the hospital.

Trindad said Whitney tried to go back to the maternity ward but was stopped. A detective arrested her for trespassing in a maternity ward.

Whitney claims she just wanted to show the dolls to maternity nurses in the hope they would purchase some for training.

Police continue to investigate and asked anyone with information about this to contact contact Det. Joseph Henderson at (209) 385-6847 or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at (209) 385-4725. The public can send information via anonymous text messages to the police department by dialing "TIP411" (847411) and including the word "ComVIP" as the "keyword" in the text message.
