Syracuse takes over at No. 1

by Eddie Timanus

A wild week in college hoops meant big changes in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, and this time the shake-up went all the way to the top.

Syracuse is the new No. 1 team after Arizona's eight-week reign ended with Saturday night's two-point loss at California. The Orange, who staved off Duke in overtime in a terrific prime-time contest over the weekend, received all 32 first-place votes to be the first unanimous No. 1 team of the season.

The No. 2 team wasn't as clear cut. The spot belongs to Wichita State, the only other team in Division I still without a loss. The Shockers were voted second on 15 ballots. Arizona checks in at No. 3 this week with 12 No. 2 votes to its credit. The other five second-place nods went to Florida, though the Gators' overall ranking remained unchanged at No. 4. San Diego State held steady as well to round out the top five.
