Fort Wayne, IN (Sports Network) - Bailey Tardy carded her second consecutive 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors at the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.
Tardy finished the stroke-play portion of the championship at 6-under-par 138.
Lilia Khatu Vu shot 71 and took second place at 5-under, while 2012 champion Minjee Lee ended in third at minus-4 after firing a 69 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
Kelsey Ulep and Samantha Wagner carded matching 73s to share fifth place with Kathleen Scavo (74) at 2-under 142.
Tardy, 16, began Tuesday's round on the 10th tee and opened with a bogey before rebounding with four birdies during an outward 33.
Around the turn, the Norcross, Ga., native birdied two straight and added another at the par-5 fifth. She stumbled down the stretch with a bogey at No. 8 and a double at the ninth, but still managed to record the lowest medalist score since Lisa McCloskey's 134 total in 2008.
The rest of the tournament will consist of match play between the 64 players that advanced from the stroke-play portion, with the championship scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Saturday.
The final spot of the match play portion was determined by a 9-for-1 playoff, with Abbey Carlson making it through to Wednesday's action.
