MANTECA - Manteca High School will help the San Francisco 49ers open Levi's Stadium by playing the first regular season football game at the new venue when the Buffaloes face Wilcox (Santa Clara) to open the high school football season."It is a huge honor," Manteca Head Coach Eric Reis said. "To play in a billion dollar stadium is something special and for us we know there are people that have never seen Manteca football are going to watch that game so we want to make a good impression for those people."
"Big time, a lot of eyes on us." added senior Dom Pisano. "A lot of people don't know where Manteca is, so when you play a big team like Wilcox it is time to step up."
The Buffaloes are coming off a stellar 2013 season finishing 13-2 while winning the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division III Championship. Ironically, one of their losses came early in the season to Wilcox-- the only team to beat Manteca at home.
"Redemption of course because they came to our house and beat us," senior Lechi Nkwocha said. "We took that to heart, and we aren't going to let that happen again."
The Manteca-Wilcox game is a part of high school football showcase at Levi's Stadium on August 29th. The event will also include a game between local Jesuit and national powerhouse De La Salle.
The 49ers will play two preseason games at Levi's Stadium in August, before their first regular season game versus the Chicago Bears on Sept.14.
