Giants pitcher Cain scratched from facing Padres

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Giants pitcher Matt Cain has been scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night against San Diego after cutting the tip of his right index finger once at the ballpark.

The team said he wouldn't require stitches on his pitching hand, but didn't provide further details. Yusmeiro Petit was called to make a spot start. He is 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA in eight relief appearances.

Cain, who pitched a perfect game two years ago at AT&T Park, will finish winless in April. He is 0-3 with a 4.35 ERA in five starts.
