Slim Sandoval says he's open to extension with SF

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - A slimmed-down Pablo Sandoval said he would be open to discussing a contract extension with the San Francisco Giants as he enters the final year of his deal.

The 27-year-old third baseman is in the final year of a three-year, $17.15 million deal.

His weight crept up into the upper 200s in 2013, and when he returned home to Venezuela over the winter, he began a strict nutrition and conditioning program. He also played for Magallanes in the Venzuelan Winter League.

Despite not having weighed himself on a scale, Sandoval estimates he's lost between 30-40 pounds.
