Kings cut Farmar, Cousins as opening night roster set

SACRAMENTO - The Sacramento Kings released guards Jordan Farmar and Isaiah Cousins on Monday afternoon to set the opening night roster for the 2016-17 season.

Farmar, a 10-year NBA veteran averaged 6.5 points and dished 2.8 assists per contest in his four preseason appearances for Sacramento. He recorded a 14 point performance against his former team the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 13.

Farmar was added in the offseason as insurance in the back-court before the eight-game NBA suspension was delivered to incumbent starter Darren Collison, who pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor domestic battery in September.

Both Farmar and Cousins, a rookie from Oklahoma, became expendable due to the short length of Collison's suspension coupled with the play from Ty Lawson, who will start at point guard for Sacramento during the NBA's eight-game ban.

Cousins was selected 59th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft and appeared in just two of the Kings' preseason games and totaled just 12 minutes of playing time in those contests.

Last Wednesday, the Kings released forward Lamar Patterson, but re-signed him two days later after he cleared waivers. The team will likely release him on Tuesday, allowing him to become an affiliate player with the Reno Bighorns, should he opt to sign a D-League contract.

Prior to signing with Sacramento, Patterson was released in July by the Atlanta Hawks. He appeared in 35 games last season and averaged 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 11 minutes per game.
