SACRAMENTO – The National Football League draft begins Thursday night in New York City and by the time it wraps up Saturday, five players native to Sacramento and the surrounding areas could hear their names called from the podium.
Stockton's Brandin Cooks and Fairfield's Jason Verrett will be in attendance at Radio City Music Hall where they are projected to be drafted in the first or second round.
Deone Buchannon, also of Fairfield, could go as early as the second round and is likely to be chosen before the end of the third. Terrence Mitchell of Sacramento and Elk Grove's Jalen Saunders are also expected to be selected in the mid to late rounds over the three-day selection process.
