PATTERSON, Clif. - It's only being called Project x x for now because the company isn't prepared to announce its intentions, but another huge warehouse is set to be built in Patterson in Stanislaus County.
The Modesto Bee reports the warehouse will belong to Restoration Hardware, and the 1.5 million-square-foot building will be in the same part of town as warehouses belonging to Amazon, CVS, and Kohl's.
Patterson's city manager listed the factors that make Patterson such an attractive location for those large businesses.
"You've got proximity to Interstate 5 and available land, and the proximity to the Bay Area, Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto, which is huge," Rod Butler said.
Butler also said Patterson charges about 30 percent less in fees than other cities, and then he added one more factor in his city's favor.
"It may sound corny but Amazon told us they like they can talk to the city manager and get a same-day response. Sometimes on development projects, there is a level of bureaucracy that businesses have to go through that makes it difficult to get answers and keep the project moving," he said.
Butler added that other businesses around town are a result of the warehouse business. At the brand-new Great Clips, employees who already lived in Stanislaus County are now able to cut their commutes by driving to Patterson instead of San Joaquin County.
Butler said unemployment in the Patterson area has been reduced about six percent in the last few years.
