White was drafted 16th overall by the Houston in the 2012 NBA Draft, but never played a game for the Rockets. He was eventually suspended by the team after a disagreement over how to treat several mental illnesses he suffers from, which include anxiety, a fear of flying, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and panic attacks.

Houston traded White to the Philadelphia 76ers in July and played in the preseason before being released by the team before the season.
