Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard will grace the cover of Electronic Arts pro basketball simulation NBA Live 15.
The All-Star point guard confirmed the news through Twitter on Monday. Lillard is coming off a huge season, earning his first All-Star berth and guiding the Blazers to the playoffs.
"It feels great," said Lillard in an interview. "Not a lot of guys get this opportunity. I'm really excited about it."
Lillard wrapped up his second year in the NBA, averaging just under 21 points and 5.6 assists per game.
The point guard's role with NBA Live 15 extends beyond the cover. He participated in some motion capture sessions at EA studios, and offered input on some of the game's features. His voice can also be heard during instructional portions of the hoops simulation, which launches in October.
"It was a fun experience," says Lillard of performing the motion capture sessions. "I was in the arena going through my crossovers, my moves and my shots. The entire time I was doing it, I can see on the big screen the character doing every single thing that I did."
Lillard was one of several pro basketball players invited to try out for USA Basketball, although he missed the final cut Saturday. However, Lillard says competing against the best players in practice has been a huge benefit. "It's helping me grow as a player."
Lillard is the first Blazer to appear on the cover of NBA Live, which dates back to 1994. However, the team did feature prominently in the 1992 sports title Bulls vs. Blazers and the NBA Playoffs for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
