Seahawks' Sherman pegged as Madden NFL 15 cover athlete

After 9.6 million votes were cast over the course of ESPN and EA Sports' Madden cover athlete voting, Seattle Seahawks defensive back Richard Sherman proved the victor and will grace the cover of Madden NFL 15.

"Richard Sherman is used to covering his opponents. Now, thanks to millions of fans, Sherman has one more thing to cover - the new Madden NFL 15 video game," EA Sports stated on the Madden Cover Vote website. "The Super Bowl XLVIII champion beat out Alshon Jeffrey, Jimmy Graham, Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton on his way to victory."

Sherman proved the more popular choice of the two finalists, edging Carolina Panther quarterback Cam Newton 56 percent to 44 percent. In the round preceding the final, Sherman advanced past San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. All-in-all, a total of 16 current-roster NFL players were chosen by EA Sports as possible cover athletes for Madden NFL 15.

Rated "E for Everyone," Madden NFL 15 is scheduled for release August 26 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
