Tahoe sees best skiing conditions of year

SACRAMENTO - Despite mostly receiving moderate dustings, a few significant storms have helped lift Tahoe's ski season to the point where it is currently peaking.

The snowpack is typically highest at the beginning of April before warmer weather moves in and you see conditions deteriorate. March can be a perfect skiing month. With most winter vacations over and people's thoughts shifting to warm-weather activities, March can be an ideal time to hit the slopes. Typically locals get in on the goods in March because the crowds are light, and a few big late-season storms can create great conditions.

The Tahoe area currently has fairly low snow levels and well over a foot of fresh snow for the resorts.

The next system will approach the area late on Friday with snow dropping to lake level by early Saturday. This could produce a large amount of snow at higher elevations in time with the weekend.

The next system approaching the area in the Monday, Tuesday time frame looks to be positive for skiiers. It will be cold and that makes for typically drier powder snow. It comes midweek so the crowds will be low, and it's also after a nice storm cycle so it will on top of fresher snow.

I think I feel a cold coming on Tuesday and may not be able to make it in to work...if you catch my drift.
