The few times you'll see drought and good news used in the same story

Finally, some good news about California's drought.

The U.S. Drought Monitor showed Thursday that only 60 percent of the state is covered in "Extreme Drought." Last week before the rain, 67 percent of the state was covered at that status.

This change comes on the heels of last weekend's rain, courtesy of a long atmospheric river extending into the Pacific. The Sierra foothills, and areas near Sonoma County, had significant rainfall, which helped alleviate some of their drought concerns.

The long range forecast is still showing a dry weather pattern through February, and then again through the first part of April.

Just as drought conditions improve, they can go back again - so it's still a time to conserve.
