At ABC10, we have a responsibility to do more than just tell the stories about your communities. We must actively work to make each one of them better. That’s why we are launching our new initiative called “Building a Better Community.” “Building a Better Community” will focus on highlighting issues that threaten the region’s quality of life, hold public officials accountable for improvements and bring stakeholders together to find solutions.

“Building a Better Community” begins with supporting area charities with a focus on families, healthy living, and education. Below are the organizations that we’ve supported in the last year alone. Click on any of them to find out how you can get involved, too:

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

We’ve also worked with the TEGNA Foundation to deliver grants totaling $50,000 in 2019 to the following local organizations tackling a variety of critical local issues like illiteracy, food insecurity, and abuse of women and children. These organizations would be happy to also have your support:

916 Ink

We’ve also been taking our Morning Blend team out into the community, meeting our viewers face-to-face at local coffee shops. The coffee’s on us, the conversations are with you. To find out where the next Morning Blend meetup will be, check our Morning Blender Facebook page.

What’s next in 2020

Over the coming year, we’ll be adding new elements to this initiative, including:

  • community listening sessions
  • more neighborhood meetups
  • our own community improvement initiatives

You’ll also see more stories and attention toward helping solve community problems and holding those in power accountable, so the promises they make aren’t promises they break.

We believe people can make a difference when they work together toward a common goal. Our goal is to Build a Better Community. We can’t do it alone. Please join us. We’re listening!
