SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Van Tieu joined ABC10 in Sacramento in December 2019 as a multi-skilled journalist, specializing in general assignment reporting.

A second generation Vietnamese-American originally from the Bay Area, she is thrilled to be back in NorCal. Her journalism career spans more than 15 years with several stops across the country. Van comes to ABC10 from NY1, where she covered news in New York City.

She has also covered some of the country’s most high profile news events, such as the 2018 U.S. mail bombing attempts, the sentencing of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, and the 2017 New York City West side highway terrorist attack.

After earning her Master’s Degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, she worked behind the scenes at CNN’s New York City Bureau for prime time shows, like Anderson Cooper 360 and Piers Morgan Tonight. She then jumped from the media capital of the world to Bismarck, N.D. to work as an anchor and reporter at KFYR-TV. Her next stop was just over the Sierra at KRNV in Reno, Nev. Every city has taught her to approach each story with compassion and an open mind.
