Summer learning loss is a real issue and there are many academic based programs in place to address it,. However a larger issue is the number of children that will go hungry during the summer months. Learning is even more difficult when kids are dealing with hunger pains and are not getting nutritious meals at home. Fortunately, the federally funded Sumer Food Service Program will feed children 0-18 throughout the Sacramento Unified School District during the critical summer months for free.

Brenda Padilla, Nutrition Services Director for SCUSD, explains to host Mellisa Paul how the program works and where to find one of the 32 Summer Food Service Program participating sites. For more information and meal times visit, 916-433-5325.
