Unique beer festival to blend fine ales, food, artwork

An event catered to appreciators of fine foods, arts and ales is expected to draw crowds and raise money for Autism research at the California Aerospace Museum at McClellan Park Friday night.

SACRAMENTO - An event catered to appreciators of fine foods, arts and ales is expected to draw crowds and raise money for Autism research at the California Aerospace Museum at McClellan Park Friday night.

The Art of Beer event brings togethera collection of 29 craft breweries, three cideries, four local restaurants and a host of California artists,offering visitors a chance to see a variety of fine art while sampling some of California's finest craft beer and cider.

Local breweries including Berryessa Brewing Co., Bike Dog Brewing Co., Mraz Brewing Co., New Helvetia Brewing Co., Sudwerk Brewing Co., Track 7 Brewing Co., American River Brewing Co. and Two Rivers Cider, along withcraft brewgiants Stone, Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevadawill offer tastings from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a special rare beer hour open at additional charge from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m..

Complementing the brews will be a sampling of eats fromCulinary Director Chris Davis-Murai of Oak Park Brewing Company,Susan Korec from the Pasta Queen, Passsione Pizza and Gary Sleppy from the East Sac Shac.

Artwork will be on display from California artists, some of whom crafted pieces with craft brews as their muse. Each participating brewery will also feature paintings, sculptures and "other surprises"created to tell their specific story.

Artist pieces will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds going to support charities. A silent auction for brewer-contributed artwork will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with 100 percent of the earnings going to Ales for Autism.

The evening's festivities will be emceed by highly entertainingUC DavisBrewing Professor Charles Bamforth.
