Free 2019 tax help for residents in Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus Counties

Some people who meet certain requirements will be able to file for free.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Tax season can be confusing, but there are plenty of local outreach efforts trying to help people get their taxes done as smoothly as possible. 

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs will be available until the April deadline to help certain people prepare their taxes. However, there are some limits as to who they can help.

Generally, the VITA service is available to people who made $55,000 or less in 2018. Some other organizations, like the United Way California Capital Region, set their cap around $60,000. If you meet certain requirements, you might also get to file your taxes for free
