SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Lottery is piloting "Instant Winnings," giving them the option to issue same-day checks for Lottery prizes of $1,000 or less.
The pilot program is being tested only at the Lottery's Sacramento District Office. Once evaluated, the Lottery will eventually offer the service at all nine district offices throughout the state.
Previously, same-day cash outs were only offered for winning tickets under $599. The California Lottery made it clear that all winning tickets $599 and below can still be cashed out without a claims form at participating retailers.
Instant Winnings is available to any lottery player who submits winning tickets of $1,000 and less and submits an error-free claim.
HOW IT WORKS:
- Winners visit the Sacramento District office to submit a Winner’s Claim form, with their original draw or Scratchers® ticket signed by the claimant on the back.
- The claim form must be error-free. It must be legible, completed correctly, properly signed by the claimant, the tickets cannot be damaged or altered in any way (and there can be no white out or scratch out of the signature of claimant).
- The original draw or Scratchers® tickets must be included.
- Once approved, Lottery district office staff will then process the claim and print a check for the winner.
- No cash will be offered.
The Lottery’s Sacramento District Office is at 4106 East Commerce Way, near the Sleep Train Arena. The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays.
