The man shot and killed in South Sacramento late Thursday night was identified as 18-year-old Timothy McGinnis from Long Beach, coroner records show.


A man was shot and killed late Thursday night while driving his SUV in South Sacramento, a sheriff's official confirmed.

The shooting happened just before midnight in the 8200 Block of Andalusian Drive in the Sheldon area of South Sacramento. According to Sacramento County Sheriff's Sergeant Tess Deterding, deputies found the man inside of his SUV suffering from at least one gun shot wound to his upper body.

Deterding said three men were with the victim when he was shot. The men told deputies that after the victim was shot, he continued driving his car but lost control and crashed into a SMUD power box.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear if the three men who were with the victim sustained any injuries. There is no suspect information or known motive at the time of Friday morning.
