Alleged drunk driver in deadly crash had prior DUI conviction, Winters police say

Winters police said a 39-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was killed in the crash on Saturday night.

WINTERS, Calif. — An alleged drunk driver involved in deadly wreck is facing a murder charge after his passenger was killed in the crash, Winters police said.

Police said the crashed happened on Saturday night around 9:29 p.m. on Railroad Avenue, just north of Niemann Street in Winters.

Emergency personnel tried to help the driver and passenger, but, the passenger was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as Sarah Muller, 39 of Arbuckle.

Police said the driver, Joshua Muller of Arbuckle, showed signs of being drunk. After he was taken to the hospital and consented to a preliminary alcohol screening test, police said his blood alcohol content was .14%.

Police said Muller was on probation for a previous DUI conviction when the crash happened.

Muller was taken to jail and booked on felony charges of murder and DUI.

The investigation is still open and ongoing.
