Armed man chases down, shoots robber in Stockton

The shooting happened on the 4300 block of East Main Street in Stockton.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Update: 10:24 p.m.

After a man was robbed in Stockton, he chased down his attackers striking one of them and shooting him in the leg.

The man, described only as Hispanic, was standing on the norther side of East Main Street when he was approached by two Hispanic males who punched him and ripped a gold chain from his neck. 

Armed with a gun, the man chased down his attackers and struck the one who robbed him over the head with the gun and shot him in the leg.

The attacker was taken to the hospital to treat his injuries.

Authorities said that the shooting damaged a Dollar General Market that was across the street. It left glass in the store's parking lot.

The shooting caused both the store and a nearby meat market to close for the night.

Juana Solorzano, who owns the La Perla Carniceria meat market, said the man attacked was one of her customers. She said he was buying tacos when the attack and shooting unfolded.

For Solorzano, it's an out of the normal occurrence for the neighborhood.

"Very quiet people around, so i'm not afraid…so I have hope," said Solorzano. It will be OK. We have good neighbors."

The sheriff's office is still looking for two people who left the scene.

An attack in Stockton left one person in the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. 

Officials with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said the person shot was with another person when he attacked a Hispanic male.

The Hispanic male was standing outside on the north side of the 4300 block of East Main Street when deputies said he was approached by two other Hispanic males who punched him and tore a gold chain from his neck.

The person attacked had a gun and shot one of the two attacking males.

The attacker was taken to a local hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. 

A nearby building was also damaged in the attack when bullets flew across the street hitting the building.

There is currently no one is custody, and authorities are treating all three men as a suspects. The investigation will have East Main Street from Oro to Walker shut down for at least a few hours.
