CHP: 1 killed, 3 injured in south Sacramento DUI crash

One person was arrested after officers conducted a sobriety test at an area hospital.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — One person is dead and three others were left with injuries after a suspected DUI crash in south Sacramento on Saturday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

The crash happened at 7:55 p.m. in the intersection of Calvine Road and Bader Road, according to the CHP. A driver of a black sedan is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, driving down Calvine Road and colliding with an SUV traveling down Bader Road.

Two passengers were in the vehicle with the suspected drunk driver, both were taken to a local hospital. The passenger in the front right seat later died at the hospital, CHP officials said, the passenger in the back seat is suffering serious injuries.

The suspected drunk driver suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital. All four passengers in the SUV suffered minor injuries and were not taken to a hospital. They were treated on the scene and released.

Officers responded to the hospital where the driver was recovering and detected signs of alcohol impairment. CHP officials say officers conducted a sobriety test and arrested the driver.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified the victim of a deadly hit and run in Elk Grove as Edward Villasenor, 85.
