Buying lunch from Mr. Pickles Sandwich's sends a donation to Deputy Brian Ishmael's family

Mr. Pickles Sandwich shops across Northern California have set up a fundraiser to benefit the family of the fallen El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy.

SACRAMENTO, California — If you're still deciding what to eat Friday, consider grabbing a sandwich at Mr. Pickles to help raise money for the family of fallen Deputy Brian Ishmael.

Mr. Pickle’s Sandwich Shops across Northern California are holding a fundraising event Friday, Nov. 8, to support of the family of the fallen El Dorado County Sherrif’s Deputy, Brian Ishmael.

Deputy Brian Ishmael was responding with an off-duty San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputy to a theft call at a marijuana farm in the yard of a home in Somerset. Both of the deputies immediately took fire, El Dorado County Sheriff John D'Agostini said. Ishmael was shot and killed. The unidentified off-duty deputy returned fire, but was also shot, D'Agostini said.

Ishmael was a four-year veteran with the sheriff's department, and spent two years with the Placerville Police Department prior to that.

Darin Hughes, the owner of Placerville's Mr. Pickles Sandwich Shop, said he believes that when things like the death of Ishmael happen, the community needs to come together to help.

"They do a job that risks their lives; that is the ultimate sacrifice for society's benefit," Hughes said.

Hughes also said that his family served as law enforcement officers for years and that they understand the sacrifice Ishmael and his family have made for the community.

$2 from every sandwich, salad, or wrap sold will be donated. He said there would also be a jar for donations to Ishmael's memorial fund.
