Lego kids summer camp burglarized in Stockton

Legos, laptops, Amazon Kindles and a big screen TV were all stolen from the Bricks 4 Kidz camp in Stockton. The loss totaled close to $10,000.

STOCKTON, Calif — Joseph Ratto, 8, loves his Legos.

"Sometimes cars and making what a whirlpool does," said Ratto.

But on Tuesday there were fewer Legos than usual. Sometime between Saturday morning and Monday morning, not only Legos, but 10 laptops, 21 Kindle Fire 7s, a big screen TV and more were taken from the Bricks 4 Kidz second floor suite off West March Lane.

The total loss: close to $10,000.

"I was sick to my stomach. I got the phone call as I was driving into work from the property owner who says 'Hey, your front door was open,'" recalled Brent Fujii, the Bricks 4 Kidz owner.

The burglars entered through the back entrance using a fire extinguisher that sat near the door. They used the extinguisher to smash the handle to break in.

"A lot of empty spaces that were filled with product that I need and things that I need to run my business, my camps and my after school programs were all gone," said Fujii.

The kids, ages 6 through preteen, learn about engineering, physics, robotics along with social skills and more at Bricks 4 Kidz.

"Our hearts really go out for this whole situation because people look forward to coming here," said parent Jacqueline Ratto.

Fortunately, one of Fujji's workers had kept several tablets with him and they were able to keep the camp going. A very humble Fujii said the community response has been overwhelming.

"Had a parent the other day who just called up and said 'Hey, we got you covered. We're ordering Kindles for you. Where would you like them sent?'" said Fujii.

The Stockton Police Department said if you recognize any of the electronics being sold on apps on the internet, to please report it.

Fujii's business is usually mobile, but he rents a space two months out of the year for summer camp. So, he had not alarm or cameras.
