Man allegedly shot woman in leg, dog in head in Yuba County, deputies say

The woman was taken to a hospital and the dog to a veterinarian. Deputies say both are stable and recovering.

LOMA RICA, Calif. — A man is in jail after deputies say he shot a woman and a dog in Loma Rica.

The shooting happened on Saturday evening, around 6:40 p.m. Yuba County Sheriff's deputies say they got a call about a possible accidental shooting victim on the 4800 block of Fruitland Road in Loma Rica. 

Arriving deputies said they found a woman shot in the leg and a dog shot in the head at the rear of the home.

Deputies say they found the suspect, Scott Anderson, 37 of Loma Rica, in the driveway.

Deputies say Anderson became combative when they tried to detain him, but he was ultimately taken into custody and booked into Yuba County Jail. 

His charges include assault with a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, cruelty to animals, and resisting arrest.

The woman was taken to a hospital and the dog to a veterinarian. Deputies say both are stable and recovering. 

The shooting is still under investigation.
