Man arrested in connection with shooting, crash in Manteca

Investigators were led to 21-year-old Carnellius Lee Martin of Stockton. Police said Martin knew the victim and that the two had previously dated.

MANTECA, Calif. — Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting and car crash in Manteca on Friday.

A woman was shot around 10 p.m. on Friday in the 2500 block of N. Airport Way, police said. According to investigators, after the woman was shot, she was able to get away in her car, but eventually crashed into another vehicle.

When police arrived they said the woman was in critical condition. She was taken to the hospital where, as of Sunday evening, she remains in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle she hit was not seriously injured.

Through their investigation police were led to 21-year-old Carnellius Lee Martin of Stockton. Police said Martin knew the victim and that the two had previously dated.

Martin was arrested around 8 p.m. on Saturday. He was booked into jail on complaints of attempted murder, firing a gun at an occupied vehicle, conspiracy and domestic violence.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said addition suspects could be identified soon.
