Man dies after early morning shooting in Stockton, police say

Deonta Simmons, 29, was killed after being shot in the area of Wilson Way and Church Street Saturday morning.

STOCKTON, Calif — A man is dead after an early Saturday morning shooting in Stockton, according to the city's police department.

Deonta Simmons, 29, and a 21-year-old woman were driving in the area of Wilson Way and Church Street around 1:30 a.m. when an unknown suspect shot at them, causing the victims’ car to crash into a building. 

Simmons and the woman were shot during the incident. Simmons died at the scene of the crash and the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to the Stockton Police Department.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. There is no motive or suspect information at this time.
