Man lands in jail with attempted homicide charge after woman, boy found with injuries in alley

Modesto Police arrested Rene Franco on an attempted homicide charge after a Friday night incident involving a woman and a 5-year-old boy.

MODESTO, Calif. — A 45-year-old parolee is heading to Stanislaus County Jail after being arrested on an attempted homicide charge in Modesto. 

Rene Franco, 45, was arrested as a suspect after a woman, 43 of Modesto, and a 5-year-old boy were found with injuries in an alley near Scenic Drive and Bodem Street.

Police heard about the incident around 10:30 p.m. on Friday and said the woman had been assaulted. 

Officers moved the victims to safe place so they could be treated. Both are expected to survive.

Officers learned that Franco was in a Bodem Street home and surrounded the house. They were able to contact him and took him into custody after nearly an hour.

Franco was charged with attempted homicide and booked into Stanislaus County Jail. Police said he was treated for wounds that appeared to be self-inflicted.

The investigation is ongoing, and no victim information is currently available.
