San Joaquin deputies investigate possible explosive device found in Stockton

The suspicious device was found while deputies searched the suspect's car, but authorities said the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were able to dispose of it.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office investigates after disposing of what they say resembled a small explosive.

STOCKTON, Calif. — An investigation is underway after San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies disposed of a suspicious item that they said resembled a small explosive.

Deputies said they chased a vehicle that failed to stop for deputies during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon. 

The suspected driver rear-ended a truck in the area of Ryde Avenue and Alpine Avenue in Stockton before being taken into custody. Deputies said the passengers in the truck had minor injuries and were being treated.

The suspicious device was found while deputies searched the suspect's car, but authorities said the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team were able to dispose of it.

The investigation is active and ongoing and deputies are asking people to stay out of the area.
