ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Roseville and Rocklin police are warning about a recent trend in car break-ins with many happening outside coffee shops.
Anyone could be a victim in just a matter of seconds, so how do you prevent it?
"Car break-ins happen everywhere. I think the unique thing about the series is, right now, is it's that quick," said Rob Baquera, with the Roseville Police Department.
Baquera said it's incredibly important to hide all valuables or take them with you, even if you are planning on a very short visit. Recently, five cars were broken into outside of coffee shops in the area.
From 2018 to 2019, Roseville Police handled 17 car break-ins outside of coffee shops.
"We noticed this starting to pick up before the end of the year," Baquera added.
Police are looking for a suspect, believed to be a man, who is driving a silver Nissan.
"We believe this person is committing this type of crime all the way up and down the region," Baquera said.
Rocklin Police are also reporting a trend of car break-ins.
According to crime data from the department, they've seen 15 car break-ins over the past two weeks.
"I think the best thing people can do is prevention. People need to lock stuff up in trunk and not have any valuables in plain sight and they shouldn't be a victim," Baquera said.
