SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Police officials released a video Tuesday of a police officer getting shot at several times after a small foot chase and altercation following a traffic stop in Upper Land Park.

According to police, around 2 a.m. on January 6, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle near Vallejo Way and 5th Street for an expired registration.

Police said the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Artavious Coleman, ignored the officer, but eventually pulled over on Seavey Circle before taking off on foot.

Coleman evaded the officer before finally being taken to the ground. The incident was captured on the officer’s body cam.

Video shows the two wrestling for a while, before Coleman got back on his feet.

According to police officials, the officer said that he heard a clicking sound just before firing his taser, dropping Coleman.

The officer said he saw a gun in Coleman’s hand. The two began struggling again over the gun, and Coleman allegedly bit the officer on the wrist.

After more than a minute, police said additional officers arrived and arrested Coleman. A background check showed Coleman had a felony warrant out for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender.

Coleman was arrested for attempted homicide of an officer, felony resisting arrest and multiple weapons charges, in addition to failing to register as a sex offender.

The officer only sustained minor injuries from the fight. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Police say the gun found at the scene had a fully loaded clip, but did not have a bullet in the chamber.
