Starving horse abandoned in Stanislaus County now being cared for by rescue group

River, a 7-year-old horse, was dumped at a local park. Now he's being cared for by an animal rescue group.

DENAIR, Calif — Authorities are looking for whoever is responsible for dumping a starving, injured horse at a park in Stanislaus County.

On Monday night, Bobbie Carne got a call about the horse. Carne rushed over and found a white horse lying on the ground. She started recording the situation on her phone.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies were also called out to help get the horse into a trailer to the veterinary hospital as soon as possible.

Carne said a father and son initially reported the abandoned horse. They were fishing at Laird Park in Grayson near the San Joaquin River when they heard a commotion and saw a trailer speeding away. Later, they walked over and saw the horse lying on the ground.

Carne named the horse "River" after where he was found. She posted an update about River, Tuesday night.

Stanislaus County Deputies are aware of the situation and hope anyone with information will come forward.
