Stockton Fire Chief arrested on felony domestic violence charge, Turlock police say

The Stockton Fire Chief was slated to retire by the end of the month. He was recently arrested on charges of felony domestic violence, according to Turlock police.

TURLOCK, Calif. — Stockton Fire Chief Erik Newman, 52, was arrested Thursday on charges of domestic violence, according to Turlock Police officials.

According to Police Chief Nino Amirfar, the department investigated the alleged domestic violence case and had sufficient probable cause to arrest Newman. Newman was arrested in Stockton with the assistance of Stockton Police Department. 

The Turlock Police Department was first contacted about the allegations on Saturday, June 15.

In a tweet by the Stockton firefighters union, the arrest was "a surprise to our membership." Newman served as the Stockton Fire Chief for the last four years and was the fourth in the last eight years.

Newman was slated to retire at the end of the month, the union said.
