Suspect who shot himself after chase dies at hospital, police say | Update

According to Sacramento Police, the suspect led police to Marina View Drive and Broadway before ditching the vehicle and trying to take off on foot.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The suspect who police say shot himself following an early-morning chase near Broadway and Marina View Drive has died.

The identity of that man has not yet been released. Police have not said what prompted the chase.

A police chase ended near the Sacramento River when the driver reportedly shot themselves, police said.

According to Sacramento Police, the suspect led police to Marina View Drive and Broadway before ditching the vehicle and trying to take off on foot. As officers closed in, they said the suspect shot themselves once, police said.

No officers fired their weapons during this incident, police said. The suspect is being rushed to the hospital in unknown condition.

Broadway was temporarily shut down in the area as police investigated. The roadway was re-opened just after 6 a.m.
