Man covered in blood goes on crime spree in Yolo County, sheriff says

The suspect broke into three homes, including one where he threatened a woman inside with a knife, according to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.

The Yolo County Sheriff's Office is still trying to piece together a bizarre crime spree from Tuesday afternoon.

It all started in the town of Winters, where a suspect burglarized a home and stole a vehicle. He then went to Pasani gas station to fill up. After that, he headed about 10 miles north to Esparto where investigators say he broke into another home and threatened a woman with a knife.

He then allegedly carjacked another vehicle near Esparto High School. The spree came to an end when he crashed into a Dollar General store and was arrested.

Authorities first found out about the spree after the suspect stopped off at a gas station in Winters.

"He rolls in and the guy comes out of the car and he says he needs to get to Cache Creek as quick as he can or he's going to die," gas station owner Bob Pasani told ABC10. "When I look at him, his whole shirt was soaked with blood. When I look up, blood is squirting out of his neck. And I said, 'Dude, are you alright?'"

A few employees offered the suspect some water and provided him some paper towels to clean the blood. Pasani then called 911. Believe it or not, the suspect's most unusual moment at this gas station wasn't necessarily something he did, but what he said while he was leaving.

"Before he left he grabbed his throat and threw blood against my [gas] pump. And he said, 'There's a trail of blood for the cops," Pasani said.

The sheriff's office said they haven't seen anything like this in quite some time.

"This was a unique circumstance, especially with the dynamic way it was moving scene to scene and how quickly he was committing crimes throughout the area," said Yolo County Sheriff public information officer, Matt Davis.

As of now, deputies say they have not yet identified a motive.
