PG&E's power outages closing these California schools

Mass power shutoffs from PG&E have caused some California schools to close their doors for the day. A number of them will be closed on Wednesday.

CALIFORNIA, USA — Schools in California are preparing for another power shutoff from PG&E. With the fourth mass shutoff this month, some school districts have decided to cancel classes on Wednesday.

Many school districts are still making their decisions, and those decisions to cancel classes may not happen until late Tuesday night.

ABC10 reached out to multiple to counties to find out what schools were staying open and what schools were canceling Wednesday.

Amador County

Amador County Unified School District

In a social media post, Amador County Unified said the school would not be in session Wednesday for students.

Calaveras County 

Calaveras County Unified School District

A spokesperson for the school district confirmed that three schools would close on Wednesday:

  • Mokelumne Hill
  • Rail Road Flat
  • West Point Elementary School 

All other schools will be open.

El Dorado County

A school closure update is expected to come in throughout the night. A rolling list is available through the Office of Education HERE.

The following school districts and schools will be closed:

  • Black Oak Mine Unified School District 
  • Camino Union School District 
  • El Dorado High School
  • Gold Oak Union School District
  • Gold Trail Union School District
  • Pioneer Union School District
  • Placerville Union School District
  • Pollock Pines Elementary School District

Yuba County

A spokesperson for the County Office of Education confirmed closures for the following sites:

  • Browns Valley Elementary School
  • Dobbins Elementary School
  • Foothill Intermediate School
  • Loma Rica Elementary School
  • YES Charter School

Placer County

Michelle Eklund, a spokesperson for the Placer County Office of Education, said no schools would close on Wednesday due to the PG&E shutoffs; however, some schools will see later start times.

Schools starting at a later time: Colfax Elementary School, Colfax High School and Foresthill High School

Nevada County

Nevada County Office of Education has a link on their page regarding school closures due to emergency conditions, and they have also previously reported closures on the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools social media page.

The following school sites will be closed:

  • Lyman Gilmore
  • Scotten
  • Bell Hill Academy
  • Grass Valley Charter School
  • Our Kids Place
  • Little Learners Preschool
  • Before and After School Programs
