Greer Elementary renovations bring 'renewed sense of pride'

The San Juan Unified School District unveiled the newly renovated Greer Elementary School Jan. 24.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Staff and students at Greer Elementary School will walk the halls with a "renewed sense of pride" now that a two-year renovation project has come to an end.

The project included a complete renovation of two classroom wings and a brand-new kindergarten building, multi-purpose room and administration building, according to a press release from the San Juan Unified School District.

Each classroom now has space for "collaboration, movable furniture, multiple writing walls and access to technology." The campus also includes a new parking lot and entrance on Bell Street.

Principal Amy Rovai Gregory said the new campus has brought a "renewed sense of pride" to students at Greer.

"I have way more Panther Pride than I used to have," student Kamara Hughes said.

The new campus was funded by the district's bond program. Greer Elementary School serves one of San Juan Unified's "most diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods," according to the district's press release. The school needed upgraded facilities to meet current teaching and learning standards.

Greer is one of three new elementary school projects for San Juan Unified in the Arden-Arcade area. Dyer-Kelly Elementary opened a new campus in August 2019, and Del Paso Manor Elementary is scheduled to complete construction in August 2020.
