SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento City Unified School District will run out of cash by November 2019, according to a district spokesperson.
In a statement sent to ABC10, the spokesperson said despite identifying $19 million in savings, the district will not have the money to pay employees, vendors and others unless additional measures are taken. Unless additional cost-saving measures are identified, the school district will run out of cash and be unable to balance the budget next year, the official said.
Citing an independent analysis done by the non-profit organization California Education Coalition for Health Care Reform, the spokesperson said the district has identified employee health benefits as an area where the largest savings can be made.
District officials say they have negotiated with the five labor union partners on alternative health plans.
As negotiations continue, the district says they will work to identify other cost saving strategies.
