Healthcare workers feel relief after coronavirus vaccine, urge community to heed warnings

Heather Wright has been working as a nurse for 20 years and says the pandemic has been the worst challenge she’s faced.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Heather Wright is a registered nurse who works in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center.

On Friday, she joined other healthcare workers across the nation who have been among the first to receive the new Pfizer coronavirus vaccine outside of trials.

She has been working as a nurse for 20 years and says the pandemic has been the worst challenge she’s faced.

“When I got the call that I got to come in and get my shot today, I was super excited,” Wright said.

“I would like to see an end to all of this," Wright continued. “The last nine months for us has been some of the worst I’ve seen in 20 years of nursing and I’ve been in all critical care experience.”

She is urging the community to continue following health guidelines and warnings to keep the entire community safe.
