CVS to start selling cannabis-infused products over the counter

CVS announced this week that it will be selling products infused with cannabis in over 800 stores.

Picking up CBD products just got a lot easier in eight states across the country — at least in topical form.

CVS, the largest drug store chain in America, announced this week that it will start selling cannabis-infused products in over 800 of its stores in Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee and, yes, California.

The announcement comes after the company closed a deal Wednesday with Massachusetts-based cannabis company Curaleaf Holdings Inc. The company offers a wide variety of products including including lotions, tinctures, vape pens and patches.

But if you're looking for a munchie fix, you won't be able to find it at CVS. So far, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved the use of CBD in food or beverages.

Although it is derived from marijuana, CBD oil does not have the same effect. They are two main compounds in the marijuana plant, THC and CBD. THC is the component that is psychoactive while CBD is not.
