FAIR OAKS, Calif. — An outbreak of norovirus is forcing Harry Dewey Fundamental Elementary School in Fair Oaks to close for the rest of the week, school officials announced Tuesday evening.

The closure, according to Principal Carol Stephens-Klipp, was at the direction of the Sacramento County Public Health Department.

In a letter sent home to parents, Klipp wrote “all activities at the school, including Discovery Club, will be cancelled [sic] while the school undergoes a deep cleaning.” The decision was made after several students were out sick with the virus.

“We will be working closely with the district and the Sacramento County Public Health Department on re-opening our school on Monday, May 20,” Klipp wrote.

Klipp said families can expect to receive updates on the situation via phone calls and email.
