Law enforcement shows-up by the thousands to pay respects to Davis Officer Natalie Corona

They came from near and far on motorcycles and in squad cars by the thousands to pay their respects to fallen Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona.

DAVIS, Calif. — They came from near and far on motorcycles and in squad cars by the thousands. Cpl. Mike Pistello came from San Ramon.

"Unfortunately, when these situations happen, and in today's society happening far too often, and we all come out because we like to show support," said Mike Pistello of the San Ramon Police Department.

Sgt. Danny Gil made the trip to pay his respects from South San Francisco.

"I think it's important for officers to get together in a large sea of blue to show the support to those family members and friends let them know they're not alone," said Gil.

Unfortunately, many of the officers have been to many funerals for their brothers and sisters in blue. But, some say this one is different.

Sgt. Kevin Findley is with the Bakersfield Police Department. He's a Field Training Officer who teaches rookie cops how to use a firearm.

"Having an young officer who was fresh off of FTO and the nature of the call she was responding to. Yeah, it hit a lot of us pretty hard," said Findley.

Lt. Andrew Scott of the Placer County Sheriffs Office was at Natalie Corona's graduation ceremony at the Sacramento Police Academy last year.

"It's an emotional event. It's really hard to see someone you've seen at the academy just not that long ago, fall in the line of duty," said Scott.

A short distance away from the UC Davis campus, people lined the streets with flags and signs to pay their respects as the procession went by after the funeral.

Tessa Ortiz was there with her two young children.

"We just want to in a small way say 'thank you' for her service. And, this is just one way of honoring her," said Ortiz.

But, an emotional Gregoria Miranda may speak for everyone. She came out with her grand daughter dressed as a police officer and a bouquet of flowers, petals tossed as the officer's casket passed by.

"And, it really touched my heart because she seemed to be like a very special person. And, it's really heartbreaking," said Miranda.
